Hotel Accommodations:

If you can, try to stay at one of the many Coronado Island hotels. It is a historic hotel that is frequented by a lot of big name celebrities and was the setting of the classic Marilyn Monroe film, Some Like it Hot.

There are also more affordable options that still offer comfort and luxury, like the Coronado Beach Resort, which has full condo suites with oceans views, kitchens, private balconies and rooftop spas.

Getting to Coronado Island:

If you’re arriving at San Diego by car, you can turn into the Coronado Bay Bridge off the I-5 Freeway. It’s a short but scenic drive over the bridge that offers a good photo op.

If you’re arriving at San Diego by plane, taking the Coronado Ferry is the best option. It’s a colorful and unique experience and also offers plenty of photo ops. The ferry runs every hour and is open from 9a.m. to 10p.m.

Seeing the City:

Once in Coronado, you can go out to see the rest of the San Diego attractions by taking the Old Town Trolley that leaves from the island and makes a full loop around the city, stopping at all the best spots, including Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Historic Old Town, Horton Plaza and the Sea Port Village shopping centre.

Annual Holiday of Lights Drive Through Show:

If you are looking for the largest animated light show in the west coast, you have found it at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. There is a fee per car, but you get to drive through 400 different displays of lights at the fairgrounds.

This event is held from Thanksgiving Day until the day after New Year’s Day. It is an ideal way to celebrate the holidays with your family and the cost is only a nominal fee per car.

Sports fans will enjoy Petco Park, which houses Padres baseball, as well as Qualcomm Stadium, the home of Chargers football. You can have a fun afternoon or evening if these sports are in season.

It’s easy to get around the San Diego area, and there is a great deal to explore. You can always rent a car, but San Diego also has excellent public transportation. Trolleys run throughout the city, stopping at many of the city’s hotspots.
